A search activity where dogs learn to find specific target odors, modeled on professional detection dog training. It's a sanctioned dog sport and one of the best mental enrichment activities available.
Can any dog learn scent detection?
Yes — every breed, age and size. Scenting is a dog's strongest natural ability; the training just channels it. It's especially good for dogs who can't do group activities.
Is scent work good for anxious dogs?
It's one of the best activities for them. Searching is self-rewarding, builds independence and confidence, and dogs work solo — no forced dog-dog interaction.
